The objective
Co-valorisation means putting citizen engagement at the heart of knowledge valorisation.
WHAT
WHAT IS KNOWLEDGE VALORISATION?Knowledge valorisation is the process of transforming research findings into practical applications that benefit society. This involves taking the insights and discoveries from scientific processes and using them to create sustainable products, innovative solutions, and effective policies that can enhance our daily lives. Whether it’s developing new technologies that boost the economy, creating environmentally friendly practices, advancing social progress, or improving policy-making, knowledge valorisation ensures that the hard work of researchers translates into tangible, positive impacts for the public. It’s about making sure that scientific advancements are put to good use in the real world, improving quality of life for everyone. |
WHY
Why involve citizens in knowledge valorisation?Involving citizens in knowledge valorisation is crucial because it ensures that the outcomes of research are relevant, inclusive, and widely accepted. Active engagement goes beyond mere consultation; it means involving the general public, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers in a collaborative process. This collective effort enhances the impact of societal actors in translating research into practical benefits. By incorporating diverse perspectives, the process becomes more democratic and responsive to the needs and values of different communities. This approach fosters greater transparency and trust in research and innovation, as multiple stakeholders from civil society, research institutions, industries, and policy-making bodies contribute their unique insights and expertise. Engaging citizens not only helps align research with public interests but also encourages innovation and accelerates the adoption of new solutions, ultimately leading to more effective and sustainable outcomes for society. |
HOW
How can we involve citizens for real co-valorisation?Co-creation and co-design workshops can bring a wide range of citizens together with researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to identify societal needs and collaboratively develop solutions based on research findings. In these workshops, participants from diverse backgrounds share their experiences, insights, and expertise to identify challenges and concerns, for example, or brainstorm innovative ideas. For citizens, these workshops offer a hands-on opportunity to influence research outcomes and ensure that their needs and preferences are considered. Researchers and industry professionals benefit from the practical knowledge and unique perspectives of the public, leading to more user-centered and socially relevant innovations. Policymakers gain a better understanding of public sentiment, which helps in crafting policies that are more effective and widely supported. Through facilitated discussions, group activities, and collaborative design sessions, co-creation workshops harness the collective intelligence of all stakeholders, making the knowledge valorisation process more inclusive, transparent, and impactful. |
