The PCA convenes a new Co-Value session to further develop the co-valorisation of R&D
The aim is to establish a permanent collaboration mechanism between researchers, companies, startups and citizens to solve social challenges
Alicante, 17 September 2024. The Alicante Science Park (PCA) is one of the four partners of Co-Value, a European project that is working on an advanced citizen participation system to develop innovative solutions. The objective is to promote the transfer of research results by implementing a specific approach to solve citizens’ needs: co-valorisation and the reinforcement of the future use of this knowledge for the benefit of society.
A first meeting was held last July which brought together almost 30 experts representing the quadruple knowledge helix. The project is to make further progress with a new meeting in which they will try to identify and agree on the best incentive systems to promote this collaboration between various public-private agents.
Co-Value is a Horizon Europe project that aims to strengthen the role of society in the valorisation of knowledge. A three-year experiment will take place during which it will explore how people can take part in shaping the ways value can be created using research results, turning scientific knowledge into practical solutions that improve people’s lives. The project will benefit from and contribute to EU initiatives such as the Knowledge Valorisation Platform, through the production, testing and improvement of best practices and lessons learned in two European regions: Alicante in Spain and Emilia Romagna in Italy. The local sessions organised by the PCA with the support of the Alicante City Council are part of this initiative.
The PCA has involved different researchers from the University of Alicante (UA) in this project, as well as the Local Development Agency of Alicante, IVACE, the Chamber of Commerce of Alicante, the Association of Merchants of Municipal Markets of Alicante, neighbourhood associations, Aguas de Alicante and Fundeun among other social agents.
Esteban Pelayo, manager of the PCA, pointed out at the end of the session that “Co-Value represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the connections between scientific knowledge and the real needs of society. The Alicante Science Park is committed to promoting this collaboration between researchers, companies, startups and citizens, so that together we can turn research results into practical and beneficial solutions for our community. This project not only fosters a more inclusive science, but it also enhances Alicante’s role as a region of reference in innovation and social participation in Europe.”
